In the real estate world we’ve noticed that St. Louis Park is a city that’s quickly trending upwards in popularity, and when that happens you’ll usually see a spike in new businesses in the area, especially restaurants. The Block has just moved in off of Highway 7 and they’ve come with all of the tools necessary to turn into a neighborhood hot spot!
Off of Highway 7 and Louisiana, just down Walker St. is the Block, complete with parking lot and tons of street parking. The first thing you’ll notice as you walk to the building is the great indoor/outdoor patio, or as they call it the Pawtio, which is dog friendly! Inside is a bright open space filled with booths, tables, high tops, and an incredible bar with a green tile backsplash. Everything is lit up from the numerous windows and there always seems to be a high energy atmosphere. With lots of incredible details all around, from wood features, beautiful tile work, and a well organized and visually appealing bar, The Block feels both modern and comfortable.
The Block has a little bit of everything for everyone on their menu. While they mainly feature bar food/American food, they have a few different categories they highlight. There’s a lot to cover, from apps, to salads, to asian bowls, to burgers, and more but we want to start by highlighting the incredible brisket nachos, that come stacked high with crispy chips and cool guacamole and a delicious queso blanco. Our next highlight is the broasted chicken section, which lets you pick your two favorite pieces of the chicken, get half a bird, or a full bird and is some of the juiciest, tender chicken we’ve had that also comes with incredible mashed potatoes and gravy as well as coleslaw. Next, it wouldn’t be a Hays Take if we didn’t give the burger a try, and we went classic and fired away at the Royale with Cheese, a double patty burger with American cheese, red onion, mayo, and their house pickles. The bun is firm and sizable enough to keep all of the ingredients inside, while the patties are melt in your mouth with plenty of cheese and mayo to keep anyone satisfied. We’ve also heard great things about many other options, like the beef stroganoff, the shishito and steak bowl, and many others that we’ll be trying in the near future. For drinks The Block hosts plenty of tap beers, with TONS of local favorites and some that may become your new favorite! They also have a unique craft cocktail list that also features many of the great Minnesota distilleries, including some of our favorites in Copperwing and Dampfwerks! Another feature is their long list of shakes, that come in boozy and NA versions. Each comes with a ridiculous amount of toppings and colors (think “Instagram Famous” shakes) and are tons of fun!
The Block is built to be a go to spot in the fast growing city of St. Louis Park. With a great space that works in all seasons, a great atmosphere, and TONS of great food options as well as drinks, The Block is poised to be star!
