Hays Take On is a blog series where we explore the Twin Cities (and more) in order to find the best and most interesting food and drink stops. Check for updates every Wednesday and follow along to see what we find!
This week for Hays Take On we head over to Hopkins for a solid after work happy hour spot or great dinner place! Pub 819 gives you everything you could need in a great hangout spot, including great appetizers, tons of tap beers, and much more!
One of the best parts about Pub 819 is the location. Right in the middle of historic downtown Hopkins, the whole area has a great feel and great character. You’ll first notice the patio space out front as you walk to the building (also dog friendly) which gives great views of the inside via large garage doors that are open during good weather. Inside, the building stays with a very open feel, all centered around the bar which promotes a great social atmosphere. They also have lots of TV’s which makes it a great place to watch sporting events with a group. The overall environment has great energy and a friendly atmosphere that keeps us coming back again and again.
Pub 819 hits the mark for every step of the meal, with tons of appetizers, great burgers, sides, flatbreads, taps, and even brunch on the weekend! For this take we’re just going to focus mainly on the happy hour aspect of the menu, as that’s where we have the most experience. Lots of options on the menu from curds, fries, onion rings to flatbreads and wings. You can never go wrong with their tater tots or fries (we prefer extra crispy) as long as you pair it with their spicy ketchup! Their flatbreads are also large enough to make sure everyone in your group gets to try the nice and crispy crust. They also have a great selection of wings that can come with sauce or in a dry rub style. Happy hour also features deals on pretty much all of their drinks as well, so make sure you get there between 3 PM and 6 PM on Sunday’s and during the week! On the main menu the burgers are a can’t miss selection that has all of the classic favorites like the Double Royale and some more out there choices like the Angry burger that is only for the spice lovers. They also have jumped on the impossible burger wagon and feature an American take on it with 1000 Island dressing and American cheese on this 100% non-meat burger. There are a ton of other great options on the menu as well so it’s really hard to make a wrong turn.
While Pub 819 says they features “Whisky, Beer, and Burgers” they offer so much more. With a great friendly atmosphere and friendly service, it’ll be easy to get caught hanging out long past happy hour.
