Hays Take On: Prime Deli

Hidden just around the corner from the Lake St/Minnetonka Blvd Triangle is a little known spot that is named “deli” but provides so much more…

The Place

Just off of the North side of Minnetonka Blvd on the East side of Highway 100 is a small strip mall area that’s accessible via Joppa Ave S. On the end with a small patio out front sits Prime Deli. If you were to just drive by, you would expect it to be just a small deli inside with sandwiches, but once you do enter you can really see how much space they have. With tables and booths that extend back into the space, there’s ample seating space for parties of all sizes. A fairly modern feel inside that still somehow maintains a deli kind of casual. While named “deli” Prime is a sit down spot with waiters to take your order off of a surprisingly extensive menu.

The Product

Prime takes from all sorts of culinary areas, from sushi, to burgers, to deli sandwiches and hot dogs, you’re going to find something from all over on this menu. While they may have tons of starter options, we had to default to try their wings, which come out extra hot and each is a full wing and drummie. You can get them in a dry rub, buffalo, or their homemade BBQ! Next week head on to handhelds, sandwiches and of course, burgers. When we say the menu is all over, we mean it, they have a Fajita Burrito, Walleye Tacos, Pulled Pork sandwiches, and their incredible Mad Russian Sandwich, which comes with turkey and pastrami piled high topped with sauerkraut and Russian dressing on rye. Next into the burger category, they don’t stick to the norms, but come with some flavorful options. They have a slider option called the Twin BBQ Burger that features two sliders with pineapple, jalapeño, onion, and their BBQ sauce that definitely brings the flavor. Their signature burger has a huge patty topped with pastrami, a fried egg, onion marmalade, Russian dressing, lettuce and tomato that comes with a nice soft bun and is a delicious monster to eat. Now to where they really pass the “deli” in their name comes the entrees. You can find a ribeye, salmon, penne rosa, and more! For drinks they may not have a full liquor license, but expect to find a variety of wines and beers available to accompany your meal.

The Take

With a HUGE variety of options that aren’t afraid to mix things up, you’re sure to find something you’ll enjoy at Prime. With so much more than a deli, this hidden St. Louis Park gem is definitely worth a try!
