Burgers, brews, and a great atmosphere is one of biggest indicators of a place that needs a Take… and Pat’s Tap delivers all of the above. A south Minneapolis gem that fits all of our criteria for a place you need to check out!
Pat’s Tap is located just off of Nicollet Avenue across the street from a previous take spot in Hola Arepa, and easily accessible from 35W. You’ll notice the awesome outdoor patio out front as you walk to the front door that’s open on warmer days. When walking in the front door, you’re immediately greeted by the awesome rounded bar as well as the open layout with all of their dining space. Lots of tables and chairs all over to accommodate groups of all ages and sizes. They also have great games in the back, including skee-ball and more!
The menu at Pat’s Tap is what we would describe as high quality bar food. You’ll find all of your favorite apps like cheese curds and fries, however they’re spiced up a bit with spiced ketchup or garlic aioli on the side. You can also get other great options like the honey and ginger glazed brussels sprouts as well as potato croquettes. In the bigger plates section you’ll find some great choices like the Mac n Cheese, Mahi Tacos, and the Pad Thai that come fully decorated. Their main event is definitely the “between bread” section of the menu that features some great burgers and sandwiches including a phenomenal pulled pork sandwich that doesn’t get too wet while still maintaining a good amount of pork. They also have some great burgers, and their simple Big Cheeseburger is really a winner. Two juicy patties that have a great slice of cheese that’s slightly crisped on top to give just a slight toasted texture that complements the extra soft but toasty bun. Obviously a place with “Tap” in the name has to have some great drinks around the bar, and no matter what you like to drink Pat’s can satisfy. Their tap list is huge and mostly local with a few great light classics as well as a few out of staters. They also have an enormous can list, which has so many options, they’re sorted by style of beer. They also have some great cocktails that are based around favorites that include a Pat’s twist!
Pat’s Tap is kind of like a dive bar taken to the next level. The food quality is steps higher, the tap and beer lists are bigger, and the games are better, but that fun good times atmosphere is still present. We always recommend a place that has the feeling of wanting to stay just a little bit longer and enjoy one more!
