This week Hays Take moves to everyone’s favorite part of eating: Dessert! One of our favorites has to be a good scoop of ice cream, and this week we take on one of Uptown’s hottest (or coldest) creameries. With some new and innovative takes on a classic dessert, Milkjam is definitely a stop to add to your list.
Located along Lyndale Ave just on the north side of Lyn-Lake, Milkjam is only identifiable by the round ice cream cone logo out front. They have a small space next to World Street Kitchen (more on that next week…) that is accessible through a sliding side door for those venturing over for post-meal sweets. The small space mainly consists of the serving counter where you’re able to check out all of the new flavors in the rotation and a few small chairs and tables. Maintaining a clean, modern look, Milkjam has all white floors and walls with dark colored accents as well as their signature “I <3 Ice Cream” neon sign.
After trying some of Milkjams’s ice cream, you’d probably be surprised at the fact that some of it is actually vegan and didn’t require any dairy to make. With so many varieties of ice cream and such great taste, this is quite the impressive feat. With flavors that features ingredients from fruity pebbles to mango sticky rice to lavender, you’re sure to find something that will surprise your taste buds. The craziness doesn’t stop at the flavors either, they also have adult floats filled with champagne as well as shakes and malts with your choices of a shot of rum, bourbon, or Irish cream liquor! Along with sundaes, cake, and ice cream sandwiches, they cover all of the basics in the ice cream department, but what they’re really known for is their specialty ice cream sandwich. Featuring a Glam Doll glazed donut sandwiching your choice of ice cream, this monster will satisfy any sweet tooth.
Overall, Milkjam is a must try if you love exotic ice cream flavors or a great dessert. With great choices and innovations, there’s a reason this place has lines out the door every night.
