This week we headed out west to Excelsior to try out Lago Tacos! We can’t resist a good margarita paired with some great Mexican food, so we couldn’t wait to give this place a try.
Lago Tacos is situated right off of Highway 7 into Excelsior on 2nd St. and a quick turn onto Water. With a great hole in the wall Mexican restaurant feel and a nice large bar, high tops, tables, and booths. Lago Taco is suitable for any type of group or meal time. No spot is a bad choice here, as you’re in all of the action or you’re enjoying the nice view of water street out the window. There’s also a location in uptown as well in the LynLake area that features a patio too!
Lago Tacos starts off the meal strong with 10 different margaritas on the menu, a bunch of specialty cocktails, tons of tequila choices, your favorite Mexican import beers, and plenty more! As we’ve previously stated, we’re suckers for a good margarita, and their ultimate margarita hits the mark. Hornitos tequila combined with Cointreau, and Grand Marnier all mixed with their house margarita mix on the rocks with a well salted rim creates a dangerously delicious drink. We also have been caught with the classic Corona and lime combination, that suits any Mexican dish.
We’ve found that one of the best ways to measure the food at a Mexican restaurant is by the salsa. Lago Tacos features a nice fresh chunky style that has the spice to wake you up but the flavor to make you keep scooping! They also make an extra chunky guacamole that encourages big scoops as well as a nice refried bean puree that great on their chips. For the next course, you’re given a choice of meats, and then the ability to make it tacos, a bowl, or a burrito. With options in chicken, beef, pork, seafood, and veggie, there’s a choice for everyone. At a place called Lago Tacos, we had to go tacos and they did not disappoint in size or taste. You get three tacos that are all full size and generously filled, so make sure you don’t fill up too many appetizers. The classic Chicken Fajita tacos did not disappoint, with a spicy salsa and poblano peppers that give them a kick that will have you taking a few extra sips of your drink! We also enjoyed the Szechuan beef tacos that give a nice Asian twist on a great taco, but be careful, these are spicy as well! We’d also recommend getting a side of queso with whatever meal you choose, just to add in that extra kick!
With so many great options on the menu, from drinks, to appetizers, to tacos and more, you really can’t go wrong with Lago Tacos. The nice friendly environment pairs well with the great food and drinks to create a great atmosphere for any meal of the day!
