Hays Take On: Aida

We head over to Richfield this week for Take on some great Mediterranean food that never fails. Aida may not be well known in MSP’s crazy restaurant world, but they always deliver food that’s hot, fresh, and tasty.

The Place

On the corner of 66th and Penn S. sits an a very minimally modified drive through restaurant that is now Aida. While very unsuspecting on the outside, inside is decorated with Mediterranean flair while maximizing a simple layout. With the basic fast casual style, you order at the counter, take your number, and find a table to wait for your food. They also have seating outside with umbrellas and picnic style tables to enjoy the weather with your food. Service is usually quick and the food always comes out hot!

The Product

The food is described as Egyptian-Mediterranean, with plenty of recognizable dishes that are all family recipes, so you know they come packed with flavor. The main section of the menu is split into two sides, sandwiches and entrees, but basically any sandwich can be served without being inside of the naan or pita bread. They’ve got plenty of options like a classic gyro, chicken and beef shawarma, falafel, and even veggie options. On the entree side some non-sandwich items include their chicken kabobs or the enormous Mediterranean sampler which comes with a little bit of everything if you’re someone who can’t decide. We love the shawarma that comes with sautéed peppers, tomatoes, and onion and an incredible garlic sauce that we recommend getting a side of to dip your fries in. Also, for the hungry, don’t miss the Ultimate Pita, which combines their shawarma with the gyro with a great cucumber yogurt sauce to create their ultimate sandwich!

The Take

Consistent, hot, and flavorful are 3 great descriptors for Aida, and while it may seem unsuspecting on the outside, you’re always going to get a well cooked Mediterranean style meal each visit.
